Slam for Social Justice

What's the price of being happy

Look I'm not trying to be sappy

But it looks to me like it was the bodies of Brown, Garner, and Michael
Necessary sacrifices to keep up these vicious cycles

These cycles like the patriarchy, dominancy, white supremacy, heteronormativity
Cycles nobody seems to see but everybody seems to need

How else do you explain why I'm shamed for being pro-choice
Not being able to chose what grows in me, I have no voice

People say that if you just have the baby, you'll  have nothing to lose
But a lot of those people are the ones who will never have to chose

How do you explain why we still live in this kind of world
The one that's meant to break little girls

Why Anna's too scared to walk the streets of Detroit at night in short shorts
Showing skin has become a reason to get hurt

How do you explain why Erik who likes Sam is always being told that he'll burn in hell
They've turned the living room into a closet, he's got no one to tell

Why are we so focused on the problems in Iraq and Iran
Is it to distract us from the problems at home?

We're living in social poverty
Spiritual dependency
Living on cap salary like it's all we need
