The Slave

The slave puts on his chains

They coil onto hisl limbs, snakelike

His master sits and watches

Holds one up for him, for the others

Side by side they are in bondage

         Slowly repeating the adage

"I'll be happy, I'll be free."

"One more hour, one more day

Then i'll be free."

            The master sits and laughs

He could let go if he wanted to.
