A Slave-Owner's Perception
I AM
I am greedy, I am a mercenary.
I wonder how many crisp bills will be in my hand because of Tom
I hear the clinking of coins being wasted to find the runaway slaves
I see the loads of rich plantation owners
I want money
I am greedy, I am a mercenary.
I pretend to be truthful about the slaves
I feel the glares of the colored servants behind up
I touch the chains to tie up all the black who are thralled by their owners
I worry that I might not be able to get the maximum amount of cash when bargaining
I cry about losing wealth
I am greedy, I am a mercenary.
I understand that slaves are ignorant and disobedient,
I say that slaves should be chained.
I dream to be the best purveyor in America.
I try to create the effective deals,
I hope to be the wealthiest man,
I am greedy, I am a mercenary
