Sleep
Since I was a child
I could hardly ever sleep
I tossed and turned
Rolled and curved
But still I had no peace
The sun would go down
And up again
Hours would pass by
I’d sing a song
Or twiddle my thumbs
Just for time to fly
I longed and longed
To finally rest
As I stared up into space
My eyes would close
My breathing would steady
Yet my mind remained awake
I dreamed to dream
And stray from my mind
But reality had killed my hope
I’d favor a nightmare
Maybe even two
Instead of this endless mope
I envied those
That could easily rest
Their worries seemed so subtle
And then there’s the fools
That choose to stay stirred
They know nothing of my struggle
I counted sheep
I counted time
My hours descended fast
But morning would come
And come it did
Still I could not surpass
I’d leave my bed
In sorry defeat
Then go on throughout my day
The sky was bright
And the birds were rife
My day was a sparkling gray
I constantly grew tired
And tired of being tired
This restless cycle was haunting
Though my life would go on
Yawn after yawn
Everything seemed exhausting
