Sleep

I close my eyes. Feeling the dark closing in, all hope is being lost. From now until then, I pray at all cost. Heart beating fast, I just want this to end. Breathing in deep, as I try to pretend. Squeezing the covers tight, anticipate what’s to come next. Dreams of hope, although I know it’s vexed. Counting down in my mind, ninety-nine, ninety-eight. Wanting to fall, to seal my fate. But Light shows her face, stopping me in my tracks. Darkness shatters, there is no mending his cracks. I know I am safe, although I am shaken. Hope is returned, just as it was taken. And now I awaken. I open my eyes.
