Sleep
We used to live by the sun, by the call of our mothers for breakfast
We hated sleep
Time moved faster and we got smarter so, we’d awake to alarms
We didn’t need sleep, we had too much we want to do
Things we wanted to see
Time slowed and we slowed
We wake up tired with long lists to complete
We never slept, it held us back
We wake up to bills and work and everything else
What happened to us?
When did we stop living?
Was it when we began to walk the halls, late to every class?
When bills began to call our names?
When we failed to make other expectations
Or
We did but we still didn’t make our own
Why can’t we live by the sun again?
Because we’re 18 and this is where our lives are supposed to begin
But, really all we want to do it sleep
We don’t want our lives to begin, we want it to start over
So we can sleep til the sun rises and never be tired again
