Sleep Ever Eluding

I wish I could remember what it was like to sleep,

Dreamless nights wandering by

I ache to lose myself to that deep.

What is it like to dream a full night?

With Guardian Angels on high?

I wish I could remember what it was like to sleep.

Lately sleep seems like a fight,

where all I can do is toss and turn and lie.

I ache to lose myself to that deep.

Sometimes I don’t even turn off the light,

it’s too exhausting to even try.

I wish I could remember what it was like to sleep.

With the nights too dark and the days too bright,

All my assignments to finish before the lights die.

I ache to lose myself to that deep.

My head swims with fright,

always searching with one eye,

I wish I could remember what it was like to sleep.

I ache to lose myself to that deep.
