Sleep Paralysis
I watched him turn the hands of time slowly.
My soul held on to me by withered threads
And my bones weakened, I was damned, surely.
With stinging eyes that cried different reds,
I begged for the forgiveness that was gone.
He tilted his head, a smile on his lips.
He said a few words, my soul just a pawn.
A game of lives, just his apocalypse.
He twisted the ring upon his finger,
I watched through bulging eyes, the horror set.
I saw, for a moment, sadness linger.
My hands grew cold and turned deep violet.
As he watched me take a shallow, last breath,
He whispered, ‘Forgive me, for I am Death.’
I open my eyes, fearing what was hidden.
My sight worked well, but my limbs stayed still.
The demon sat in the corner, unbidden.
He spared me as a child, now he had a desire to fulfill.
I couldn’t move or shout, I could only stare.
He made his way across the room, ticking the whole way.
My eyes blur from tears. I should have been more aware.
I can feel my fingers twitching, I watch the creature decay.
It’s time to focus on my breathing now.
The tears blink away and I clench my fist.
“But you are not safe, this I won’t allow”
The demon mutters. He is gone, as if he didn’t exist.
The demon is back, and he’s come to get me.
But as long as I can resist, then I am free.
