The Sleeper

She lay there

frightened.

Afraid to fall asleep

knowing nightmares were going to come.

And the boy.

The boy she dreamed of in the darkness

of her dark, beating heart.

Naturally,

she was bathed in anxiety.

When she was alone, her most distrinct feeling was of disappearence.

She often wished she was pale enough to disappear altogether.

Each night she would step outside

to watch the sky

"I've been dreaming a new dream lately.  But I dream this when I'm awake"

she said to the stars.

He always shows up

the boy with the lemon hair.

Asking

always asking...

My soul sat up to meet him,

an act of trust and love.

In the darkness I could hear him call out.

Her chest began to heat up.

He stepped on her heart.

And she awoke.

The only thing worse than a boy who hates you:

A boy who loves you.
