Sleeping in the Living Room
Sleeping in the living room
Through the cushions seep my anger
Dreadful thoughts spill from my eyes
Onto the leather of my bed
Fault lays on feather pillows
Under blankets, warm and safe
Light from outside, through the windows
Keep me insane and wide awake
She’s the one who’s done this
She’s to charge with this blame
Bile of self-pity rises
Boiling
Hissing
Screaming One Name
Mother, you’ve forsaken me
Leaving me out, alone and cold
I’m supposed to be your baby
Instead, only my own hand I have to hold
Dreams of happy families flutter
Across the blinds and through the glass
Flying away
and away
and away
Until my eyes snap anew and the night has passed
Reality rises with the sun
Wake up! Open those tearstained pools
No more searching for those silly dreams
They’re too far away as of today
In the future, these eyes will dry
Once I leave this world behind
I’ll fly and then, mom, I’ll show you
Just what dreaming on a couch can do
Once I’m gone, I’ll be the best
So goodbye mom, I’m better than you
Goodbye dreams of something greater
Goodbye sleeping in the living room
