Sleeping on the Shore

She braves the heat, sun's scorching rays

She sleeps upon the shore for days,

She braves the cloud that steal the light,

She sleeps upon the shore at night.

The violent waves live just to spite her,

There she stays, alert, despite her

Aching heart that wll not rest

The bloody mess inside her breast.

I left her there upon the shore

So many months and years before

I held that hand that wind's now blown

To be made white and thin as bone,

I stroked a hand through locks that gale

Has made to matt and grow and pale,

I looked into those jewelen eyes

That now do little to disguise

The chunk that's missing from her soul,

The part of me that made her whole,

I said to her a word from hell.

My worst mistake, I said, "Farewell."

My lover slept on sand that night

Her heart was racing, full of fright.

She slept on shore, she had to be

Close to ocean,close to me.

Where my ship tossed and churned in waves

A churning heart my lover braved,

She slept on shore, a sleep of fright

I slept on bloody rocks that night.

The ship slept sound beneath sea foam

And I would never go back home.

My lover waits upon the shore

Just like she did, oh years before.

She paces barefoot, sands of gold,

And golden hope in heart she holds,

But golden hair has turned to sand

She's teetering on edge of land.

My lover waits there, all alone

Within her heart the truth is known

That I'm asleep beneath the foam

I broke my promise , won't come home.

But she has hope, I know she does,

I know it's in her heart because

She stands on sands and goes insane

Till one thought raves within her brain

That my ship's floating on the sea

The voice inside her head is me.

How long until my dear desides

Beside the sea she won't reside

And drowns in hope to find her home,

To sleep with me beneath the foam?

Soon she will ignore my cries.

Deny the madness and she dies.

I cannot let her steal my pain.

I have to live inside her brain.

But one day God will look on she

And send her swiftly up to me.

There we'll meet upon the land.

Finally I'll take her hand

And not by that hand she will fall.

I'll never hear the ocean's call.

The ocean is an evil ghost

Who stole the one she loves the most,

Who makes me give her hope galore

That keeps her standing on the shore.

She'll stand there till her dying day

Till she or life takes her away

With my voice ranting in her head

Unable to tell her I'm dead.

One day I'll see her again

Though she'll be driven mad by then.

But till that day she's full of fright

And sleeps upon the shore at night.
