Sleep's Retreat

When was the last time I had a good Night's rest?

Waking up continuously through the night,

Hypnos used to visit me in this nest.

Beaten back by blue light, he blanches in protest.

Ceilings recalibrate from ebony to light

When was the last time I had a good Night's rest?

My thoughts try to reject being suppressed,

Reeling and worrying into tangles with all their might.

Will Hypnos visit me in this nest?

Morning takes but a few minutes to manifest,

Before clamorous cacophony screeches in spite.

When was the last time I had a good Night's rest?

Dragging through the day, I try to digest

The knowledge entrusted to me, despite

Hypnos not visiting me in this nest.

Again I lie awake, enchanted by the Azure's electronic arrest,

Imploring him for his endowment tonight.

When was the last time I had a good Night's rest?

Will Hypnos visit me in this nest?
