Slipped Away

I cried a thousand tears

over and

over.

He caused this pain.

He caused this hurt.

He ripped me apart.

My mourning heart begging

"stop the pain."

You'd think that I

would have learned my lesson by

now.

But I always run back

for more.

I can't let go

when he keeps holding on.

He begs me not to leave.

He begs me to stay.

To hold him close.

To tell him everything's

okay.

"I'm sorry," over

and over.

"Girl, I need you. You're all

I got.

All I have left. The only one

who cares.

Please stay!

Please!"

Crying

over and over.

I hold him.

Whispering softly.

"Honey, it's okay. Sleep.

Just sleep."

His tears soaking my

shirt and

 tearing my heart.

His eyes, slowly close.

His fingers loosen

from mine,

as he falls into

his dreams.

And I slip away.
