Slippers in the Midnight

Fuzzy and brown slippers,

Tapping the floor lightly,

I tend to do this nightly,

But don’t want to step on the floorboard.

The house lurches and so does my stomach,

But I want a bowl of chili and an ice cream sandwich or two.

Quietly walking

Descending the stairs

In the palpable quiet that my feet slice open.
