Slipping Away

Right here and now
I am living
Truly I am alive
But the moments still slip away
As the seconds tick by
I try to hold on to them
But it does not work
I might as well try to hold
The water from a stream
Or sand on the beach
As they slip through my fingers
As time goes past
The frustration and desperation held in my grasp
I let go as I open my hand and let the water and sand go past
I can not hold on to every moment
Which may make life seem like dream
But when I stay in the present I realize that it can not be
The complexity of each and every piece of life must make it something more
There are some things I will never understand
Of which I long to know
In this life I want to try to get close if not there
To understand the answers to the questions for which I long
Truly we will all get old
And we all will continue to change
But when I see each of you, my friends
I see the person I met a while back
Though the faces may age and things may change
I see you for who you really are, not the first impression facade you reflect
I wish we could all just pause time and erase what troubles us
Because we will all grow old and die and that I can not understand
I just want to know how such wonderful people can just cease to be
I want to know how friendships can die
How people can be so ruthlessly evil and so divinely good
Why yawning is contagious
I want To know why?
In this life these answers I will seek
Because that is what I long for and that is my purpose in this life
