Slowly But Surely

Slowly, I can feel my heart rate decreasing.

The next thud coming, later and later after the other.

As the life is being sucked from me, slowly.

Slowly, I can hear the police officers breaking down the door to get to me.

"Get the stretcher!"

"Give her a little space"

How naiive of them to think they could genuinely save me.

For even if they saved me that day, they couldn't save me.

They couldn't save me from my own thoughts.

My own rejections. Secrets.

My own demons..

My insecurities.

Slowly making themselves at home inside my vessel.

Only to shake and break my once wholesome body.

Slowly, but surely

I am being murdered by my own self.

And there seems to be nothing I can do about it.

If I give it all the heart I’ve got, I can’t lose.
