Small Town Iowa

She is old and worn down,

but still wakes up early when the train

whistle sounds.

Her daily routine is always the same;

wake up early,

sit quietly,

and in the evenings she sits and gossips with relatives

and her many friends.

The years have been rough on her.

She appears weak,

but on the inside

she is strong and determined.

She is a scarred warrior;

you can tell from the potholes in her roads

and the remnants of destruction left after a tornado.

Her features are subtle

and she blends in with her surroundings.

If you drive too fast

you may not notice that she was even there.
