Smile

I hide behind a curtain

I try to conceal my fears

I smile on the outside

I deceive my fellow peers

I am dying in a prison

I am trapped inside my mind

I refuse to show my true colors

I fear what others might find

I am scared that I’m not good enough

I dread what time will bring

I smile on the outside

I pretend to spread my wings

I regret my lack of courage

I wish that I was strong

I search for something inside me

I can find no unique, original song

I crave a taste of freedom

I dare not leave my box

I smile on the outside

On the inside I shall rot
