Smile

Location

Taking pics on my electronics

I start with make up add any accessories,

Get the right angle and lighting

Finish up with the perfect filter.

Shared within minutes,

Exposed to the world

Social media and its capacities have the power to do much more than like a photo

Without manipulating the looks of things to please the eye

They have the power to hate it.

Behind the camera and a keyboard

I’m a person

A human being

With feelings.

I smile

To have a better day

To stop frowns and tears

To spread smiles.

Little do they know,

I’m fighting a battle to keep that smile up

Because of my complicated life at home

The struggle of losing a mother to another marriage

A challenge to live with your unemployed, abusive, alchoholic father

A younger brother to keep safe, protect, teach, and model for

My life without a filter.
