Smile

My smile says so much about me, It also says everything it isn't saying. A smile stretches across my face Telling strangers: "she's happy" Telling friends: "she's joyous" While telling others: "she's hurting". At times, my smile is big and loud Because yes, I'm having a good time And yes, I am genuinely happy right now But this feeling will pass. My smile is big and loud at times Because no, I don't want to cry And no, I'm not fucking fine But this feeling stays. At my best, this smile is strong. It reassures, shows compassion Shows faith, hope, and love. At my worst, this smile is weak. It pretends, fakes, decieves. Showing hurt and pain. My smile tells the world That I am altogether okay and not okay.
