The Smile

The smile so beautiful, so enchanting that no one sees the pain and the anger in the eyes

or the tears falling to the cheeks.

They're all busy looking at the smile.

"Be strong. Be happy."

As Nat King Cole once put it,

"Smile though your heart is aching. Smile even though it's breaking."

The smile is what they see.

It's how you fool them into thinking everything is okay.

And who knows?

You might even believe it yourself one day.
