Smile
I am a girl who hides her smile.
Not because of a father who beats me.
Not because of a mother who drinks.
Not because of a broken heart.
I am a girl who hates her smile.
Because of the crookedness.
Because of the gap.
Because of the yellowness.
I am a girl who has few friends.
Not because I am mean.
Not because I am stuck-up.
Not because I am dumb.
I am a girl who others avoid.
Because I never smile.
Because I must be weird.
Because I must be suicidal.
I am a girl who is getting help.
Not from my father.
Not from my mother.
Not from my boyfriend.
I am a girl who is getting help.
From the dental hygienest.
From the dentist.
From the orthodonist.
I am a girl who no longer hides her smile.
Not because the braces are gone.
Not because my teeth are polished.
Not because I have more friends.
I am a girl who is more than her smile.
Because I am powerful.
Because I am loved.
Because I am beautiful.
