Smile in the Dark
When my world was dark, there was only one way I could look.
I'd look up and feel the warmth pour down my shoulders.
Only one person possessed the magic I mistook,
The magic I mistook as the smile of the beholder.
Mother. You are always with me even when I am lost.
You carried the weight of four on your soul and even grew old,
You struggle alone and fight no matter the cost,
You carry the scars of four c-sections and yet never grew cold.
Father fades behind the mist of arguments and every tear,
He stands no where near the power of my mother who is so dear.
Whether I am winning competitions for science research or academic team,
Or whether I am on the mat wrestling until every part of my heart steams.
I know you are leaving me soon, I dont know when I will see you again.
The car accident will remain in my head until then.
I would not be half the person I am now, I would only be some other.
In the end of the day all I have is the smile waiting for me in the dark, the smile of my mother.
