Smile Through The Dark

i've done things i don't like to think about

and i've hurt people it hurts to live without

am i strong enough to go on my own?

will i fail, and will i even know if i do?

you said, "please, don't let this harden your heart"

"you're in struggle, and you just have to fight"

but it's fine, this is just life…right?

i feel stuck in place

coming home to an empty box, walls instead of a face

filled with confusion and unsure where to go

is it okay that i chase comfort and safety?

or will i hate me?

for not trying, failing, and maybe someday succeeding

will i be okay?

i just want to know if we'll be okay

you looked down and said, "someday, but not today"

but that was enough

enough to look ahead, and to stop looking down

you slowly smiled and said,

"i beg that good fortune find you, and your deepest scars fade away"

"but my love, that day is not today. no, it is not today"

you have to find it, love it, fight for it, hurt for it, and die for it

even if things don't play out how you had planned

you hurt, you fought, you loved, and you tried

sometimes it's alright when a piece of you dies

it's given you a journey, a story to tell, and a mark to leave behind

stand by your mark, and smile through the dark
