smiling faces

Blood shot eyes and smiling faces,
Spinning heads and bouts of laughter,
You speak so strongly about my vices
Yet your voice is hardly heard in your own.
Hypocrisy will not be tolerated,
So stop the lecture before it starts.
You gave up happiness for a shot at gold,
But alas you failed to see the hold,
Bound by your wrists to a second class
Ignorance you accepted, your last chance.
So speak softly when you speak of me,
Speak as timidly as you do about yourself.
Take every smile, every sunny day,
Hold it close as your dreams fade away.
You could have been a smiling face,
You could have been this laughing grace,
But you made your trade.
Now live among your promised gold,
And watch me live free from your mold.
