Up In Smoke
The smothered inferno crawls through the atmosphere,
a soft whisper of relief, a gasp for breath.
It lingers, yet stands as still as the time around us.
This endless cycle of remorse chokes me, holding me as I tremble.
Blackening my vision as I blacken my lungs.
Struggling for breath as I struggle for life.
This burnt evidence, my clouded regret
is only a reminder that I am not dead yet.
