Smother

And oh,

how they tried

to smother us

To quiet our voices

to dull our spirits

to oppress us,

again

To sweep

us under the carpet

as they have done

too many times to count

And how we protested

and fought

and screamed

At the tops of our lungs

For justice

for change

For love
