Snow White's Tragic Tale

Once upon a time, as it usually goes,

There was a young lady with skin white as snow.

Snow White, she was thus named, had a stepmother too

Who cursed her for her beauty and wanted her doom.

The words of a Magic Mirror, who told the stepmother so

That the child’s beauty would one day surpass her own.

This made the stepmother start to see red

And thus ordered a hunter to make the girl dead.

But once the hunter met the girl, he was charmed by her beauty

And at once he realized he could not fulfill his duty.

He told Snow White of the stepmother’s plot

(Which terrified her an awful lot)

So with that warning, he told her to run as fast she as could

And so she did, deeper and deeper into the wood.

But something went wrong, during her flight

Though it didn’t help it was as dark as night.

Suddenly, she tripped over a root and start to sprawl

And went down a ridge to fall and fall and fall.

Once she awoke and regained her sight,

She realized something didn’t feel right.

She didn’t feel pain that would make her scream or moan

But then she happened to look down to see a body much like her own.

She was shocked to find herself floating and felt herself drifting

Only to look up to see the brush ahead of her shifting.

There stood seven small men, all mouths agape

Feeling horrified and pitiful of this young girl’s fate.

They talked among themselves as to what should be done

And decided on a plan for the poor little one.

They took her away from where she was found

And began to make a proper coffin and a hole in the ground.

As this was happening, Snow White watched from the air

Feeling some comfort within the despair.

These kind dwarfs were helping to put her body to rest

And they truly were trying their best.

So it was then she decided to help the men in her own way

By protecting their home day after day.

She scared off thieves that tried to come in

Making chairs move or sticking them with pins.

Every time it happened and the seven small men came back

They were happily surprised to find their things still intact.

This went on for two years with nothing gone wrong

Until one day Snow White recognized a familiar song.

It was her old step-mother, only in disguise

Who now craved for the seven dwarfs’ demise.

They had insulted her cruel beauty and she had heard

And now planned for them to speak their last word.

She murmured to herself as she went down the path

How the men would ultimately feel her wrath.

With a basket of apples tucked under her arm,

All of them poisoned to cause the men more than harm.

She left the basket at the doorstep for the men to eat

Then she turned around to make her retreat.

Snow White saw it all and couldn’t stand by

Letting these men get poisoned and die.

Once they returned home, they found the dastardly fruit

Taking it inside to inspect their new loot

When suddenly Snow White did something new

And there went the apples as they all flew.

The men stood in shock as the apples were thrown against the wall

Which soon became suspicion when they didn’t bruise at all.

It was then discovered, when one apple was cut,

That these apples were anything but

For the insides, once seen, looked quite queer

A fowl odor and green ooze caused them all to sneer.

They went outside to find the culprit, all of them alert

Snapping their heads to see the flutter of a skirt.

They went after who they knew was to blame

The stepmother caught and sentenced to flame

For her crimes had soon started to unfurl

Including the attempted killing of a poor young girl.

The seven dwarfs came back when it was all said and done

Only to feel like something was gone.

For it was Snow White, feeling warm and all bright

Who had left her dear dwarves and went toward the light.
