Snowed In

On a frigid night some time ago

frozen rain fell softly on those below

Into brick houses, all bundled in fluff

they sat cuddled together, but not close enough

to keep the cold from seeping through

every nook and crany upon which it drew

enough is enough said a bundle at last

and so they took an axe to the tree that had fallen past

Now with proper tinder, they huddled a little more

around the hearth set alight, all snug on the floor

Fine flickers cast dancing shadows

for the young bundles to adore

As the twelve bells tolled, each bundle dozed

no bundle suffered through cold any more
