So I Think

Completely in love as I look into his face

Or so I think

But suddenly my mind wanders apace

No, he loves me

Or so I think

Confused I stay

Not knowing the true meaning of love

For his opinions - a cost I can not pay

But still am in awe of

Twisting my mind with his tight hold

If you love me, he calls out from his throne

A common ringing in my ear

Now he takes on a threatening tone

Imploring me to risk it all, I fear

But his requests, he insists are of love’s significance

Nowadays, I am distant from those others I hold dear

Out of sight, like a boat lost in fog drifting away

Lord help if I was to ever break the chains that I bear

Confined to one, shackled by one I stay

But he does love me, so I follow anyway

He encourages me with his love, you see

A love that seems to know bounds

But deep down, I know he loves me

Even with his mark on my face, smiles abound

Because he loves me

Sometimes I cry

I sit in despair alone, sitting, pondering

But why

I know he loves me?

But a body tends to tire from repeated broken promises

I know deep down inside, I lie

I am my own oppressor, but refuse to depart

But deep deep down, I think love may underlie

But if not - I neglect that part

Certainly I can pretend to have a genuine, true love

So yes, I will stay with him

Through my own blindness, I will stay here

Maintaining his happiness and leaving mine somewhat slim

But it is for love’s sake that I endure

Or so I think

Wrong I was then to believe in such a way

So I know

No true love did he every display

So I know

But my heart now finds comfort anew

For he does not make me question

He does not make me fear

Or use the horrors of aggression

To bound me from shackles from toe to ear

Tragically subjected - not anymore

He, my love, is trusting, caring, and gentle

He sparks growth in me, I could not have done myself

Happiness is now complemental

We are both equally free to be ourselves

Now, I define love

Love intends beauty

So I know

Love is a commitment and sacrifice

But still, do not forget, love encourages individual freedom though

So I know
