So we are Mad

     So we are mad;

     Not at the world, but at the sections in the world.

     Because you will not send me two grains of corn,

     And I refuse to make you more oil.

     What nonsense! this is for us to tear up such precious ground,

     Only so we can fill it with the blood of men who never knew

     Or understood the simple depths of why we fight even.

     So quick we are to enlist in these brave packs of green, brown and blue;

     And so proud we are to tell our fathers and sons of what we have done.

     There are not so many of us who think and consider,

     Consider the simple depths of why we fight even.

     To pull a trigger and grasp a ball we hold our breaths;

     And we cry real tears to see the roses of those who have died.

     So much blood and so much pain we give ourselves to,

     So let us rejoice and call a great treaty to the lands around the world.

     We have cried long enough and lost men and much more than enough,

     And we have seen too many fall and be stepped over

     By the boots of friends.

     Let us love our brothers,

     And give our knives back to God.

     Let us leave death to other causes,

     Causes that triggers did not cause.

     Talk to my brother and tell him you believe,

     You believe in his life and in him living.

     Let us love life and hold tight to it,

     So we are not ones to snatch it from our brothers’ hands.

     Lay down your triggers and your balls of fire;

     Take off your helmets and fear not for your heads.

     Lower the gates and sink the ship-holds;

     And let us be…no longer mad.
