Social Butterfly
Growing up I’ve always been called a social butterfly
I’d soar around group after group
Spreading glows of laughter
Catching my breath through every bell aching laugh
But today
Like yesterday
And the day before that
My wings are wet
The water a deep stained blue on my once powder pink wings
The water left after the hands of a boy who didn’t understand the word “no”
“No” being so small didn’t have the power against his “come on”
A plea
A beg
Shoves
It did nothing
Month after month
I began the battle of trying to fly with drenched wings
My wings now a blue so deep it might as well been midnight
A streak of a bleak starless sky in broad daylight
No one saw
No one wanted to
I finally cried out
I was drowning in him
Finally I was scooped out
My wings are still wet
But I am not drowning
My wings are still wet
But not for long
I will never be powder pink again
But a midnight streak full of stars in broad daylight
