Societal Standards
She dispatches a memory and lets it travel through an eternal wave
The memories of what she once was stab her through her chest like an ache without relief
Her world revolves around the outside perspective
She can’t seem to find an escape
As she constantly ruminates about the person she could possibly become
Her heart seems to skip a beat
Her feelings are challenged and persuaded by expectations of her future
Like the world around her is constantly evolving and she can’t keep up
She looks at her life with a filter of judgment
As others around her seem to thrive
She can’t help but wonder where she went wrong
Her love is masked by these standards as her mind twists and turns
Diving into a deep spiral about certain aspects of herself
Trying to fit the mold of those around her
Looking at herself through the eyes of the measuring tape
And determining her worth based on the digits in front her
The pressure digging into her back as the feeling of exhaustion increases
She wishes to be as good as the diamond hidden in the rough
She wishes to be living this life for herself
Why can’t she just be content?
Why is the world pressing down on her
Trying to get her closer to societies standards?
Suddenly everything she does is measured on a scale
She’s trapped in an endless cycle of this or that
Trying to choose between expectations over her reality
Why is no one else feeling this way?
It’s as if her feelings are unmatched and she has found herself alone in this world
The world being built to make her a better person seems to be a thought of the past
Which is now taken over by a dark cloud of hopelessness
She contemplates whether she will ever be good enough
Thinking about her true intentions with this life
Is her worth enough as it is?
That memory seems to recircle though her mind whenever she finds herself thinking about her future
She's unsure of what she truly wants
And she is unsure of her existence as a whole
