Society's Love
because i love you, i listen when you shout
because i love you, i cover the marks you leave
because i love you, i gave up my friends
because i love you, i speak to my family no longer
because i love you, i no longer call it rape
because i love you, i gave you my freedom
because i love you, i melted into your being
because i love you, i am left an empty shell
no longer am i me, i am a ghost of who i was
so why does the world consider this love
to love someone is considered a great pleasure
and yet not all lovers see it as thus
societies definition of love is to reign over them
to become their master
to demand the world of them and give nothing in return
when will we stand up to those masters
wretch the whip from their hands
stop the cruel injustice upon those they have inflicted
only when we have done this will society ever rightly learn
what true love is and
all of its wonderful possibilities
