Soft Echoes

Speak to me Softly

Hold me near

Stroke me gently

And wipe away fear

Hold me close

As soft as a dove

Give me a dose

A dose of you're love

I'm addicted

Addicted to you

I am conflicted

Are you my love, true?

Feel my heart

It's beating you see

If we were apart,

I couldn't be

I want your lips

ande everything else

I want your hips

all for myself

Now please you see

I am in love

It's like a disease

Its spread to my heart

Its spread to my brain

Its spread to my body

This love can't be slain

The truth of it all

Is that I would like to gain

You at my side

And there'll be no pain

This is a nice love poem you have written, and I hope you will continue to write and add to the site. I have a few observations I would like to share with you about your poem (poetic matters not emotions). First, I wanted to mention something about the rhymes, such as dove/love and you/true. Writing with rhymes is a rewarding challenge, but if you allow them to "take over" your poem, then you have a problem. Did you really want to say "a dose of [your] love" or because it simply rhymed with "dove; did you really want the line "I couldn't be" to rhyme with "It's beating you see"? There are a few (unavoiable) cliches here, such as "beating heart", love "like a disease", soft "as a dove", and I feel that if you find phrases that are different from the phrases that automatically come to mind, than you can be more original. Remember, poetry involves imagery, but this imagery should be seen in the reader's mind not from the poet telling them what to see: "I am conflict...". Describe conflict, do not say I am conflict, because everyone is conflict, but they are not all poets rights? Read other poems on this site, if they sound similiar to yours, than ask yourself how you can make your piece more effective. Q.V.
