Soldier

I walk down a path few people choose

Too many others afraid of what they will lose

I choose to stand, fight, and protect

I’m not the person citizens elect

I follow his orders

I fight dodging enemy mortars

I do my job so Americans can sleep soundly at night

Sometimes I’m awake from dusk until light

I’ve watched friends die in front of my eyes

I’ve heard innocent civilian cries

I’ve observed things that would make sane men crazy

This is not a job for those who are lazy

You have to come into each day ready for battle

You hear things that make your heart and brain rattle

You see things that haunt your dreams

You smell warfare constantly it seems

But when it comes down to it

I refuse to roll over and quit

I stand for equality and freedom for all

And if you ask me it’s worth dying and taking the fall
