A Soldier
Riding up a dirt road
grief in his pocket
following him
until the time is right.
Forced to live with a traitor
who refused to fight
unwilling to forgive
a Southern Yankee.
He wants to leave
go back to where the grass dances
go back to where
he belongs.
Unwilling to love
a traitor
who hospitalizes
a Yankee.
Slowly he realizes
the BANG, POW of war
didn’t matter
so he decides to stay.
