A Soldier Comes Home

When a soldier comes home,

tears are shed.

Hugs are exchanged

and prayers for the dead.

A happy smile,

for those all around.

A sorrowful voice becoming the sound.

When a soldier comes home,

they come with an escort.

A flag draped upon them

and a badge of their corps.

There lies a hole,

six feet deep.

The only sound you hear

is the family's weep.

When a soldier comes home,

we bow our heads.

The words "thank you" are whispered

under the last shots of lead.

When a soldier comes home,

tears are shed.

A happy smile,

for those all around.

A sorrowful voice

becoming the sound.
