Soles

I want to feel the grass beneath my feet

And know that it will always stay

As my world grows and shrinks, roles and turns, the grass scratches my soles

But I take comfort in its presence

"Please don't leave"

I need this comfort to stay

To be here when I feel nostalgic, when I want to remember summer nights and laughter

I need it to push forward to sketch a new path but still feel myself anchored

To the grass

So I can go forth and laugh and be laughed at

I can help others

And myself

But I need the grass beneath my feet
