Solemn as winter

Lonely as the weathered observer

Since the dawn of humanity has it always been this way?

Each flower shrivels, each kestrel succumbs to the winter's harshness

It is only the Redwoods, who through temperate climates and steadfast demeanor

Observe the cycle of all things with a prescence comforting as the wind, a permanence steady

As the soil, and a wisdom powerful as the folds of time and space; the earth exhales; time begins.
