The Solitary Island in the Ocean of Time

One stormy night an island came into being

blasted into existence by unknown motion

raised high above the lashing waters

pierced the veil of the timeless ocean

The young island

was shaped by wet water

which carved its bays

and filled them with sea water

becoming apart of the oceans maze

The island noticed how the ocean of time

affected him, eroded him, changed him

alone and powerless

though he tried,

his attempts were futile to

alter  the oceans tide

Soon he was visited by others

lichen, birds, and palms

the solitary island was a convivial island

yet he failed to understand the birds song

Ships sailed around him, the island envious

for being fat and stationary isn’t easy

being able to travel through time

immortally engraved

was on the mind of the island everyday

1 year merged into 20, 20 merged into 400

His shape changed

as ocean time worked its magic

what is my purpose, the island wondered

One day the ground trembled

the palms shook

the island knew it was his time

his life was the one the ocean took

similar to the island

Our thoughts are our own

no matter how well we try to explain

them in a bird’s song

We cannot directly influence time

yet it has full reign over us

we are not a helpless island, though

but accompanied by others to ease the pain of solitude

we have so little time why should we waste it

attempting to understand it with books, pencils, and papers

when we should embrace it!
