Somber Eyes
My somber eyes look to the ground and then up to the sky. I feel a drop and slowly walk to where my heart resides. I see a speck and hear a gull, but soon they disapear. The great dunes watch as I pass by; the rain spots the sand. The waves crash and clash and smash onto the shore. The sea foam reaches out its hand, but soon after it retreats back to the sea where my heart resides, where my somber eyes will always lie. I look to the ground and then up to the sky the clouds are slowly parting. Wood drifts in and glass drifts out, a small smooth shell lays before me. I pick it up and turn it over, examening its ridges. I run my hand along its edge and toss it to the ocean. It lingers on the surface, but soon its taken under. I wander and ponder and reflect upon the day. I let the gentle wind carry me and watch the sea grass sway. To and frow, left and right it sweeps across the sand. Whistling its lonely song, reaching out its hand. I reach out to touch the grass, but it slips through my fingers. So I turn back to where my heart resides and my somber eyes will always linger.
