Some Days
Some days I find it hard to get up,
You say that you feel the same.
I wonder –
If life is meant to be lived and enjoyed,
Why huddle here, in each other’s arms,
Whispering of sorrows and cruel fate?
Some days I lock myself away to cry,
You outside the door with calm words and cocoa.
It scares me to see you do the same days later.
I sit by the door and sing,
You remember that one from the radio?
When you come out, we’ll hug –
We’ll cry together.
Some days we fight –
A horrible thing that ends with shattered pride,
Wound hearts.
It takes time to heal, but
We do –
Offering peace with it.
But just as there are those days,
Some days I look at your smile
And can breathe.
Some days we walk down town –
Frozen treats and puppies on our minds.
There are days full of laughter, too.
Days that rival the sun in brilliance.
Only because we are together,
Only because we feel safe –
Secrets are kept, confessions forgiven,
Love freely given.
