"Some Nights"
Sometimes, when I look into the sky at night
I can’t see the stars,
But I know that their light is still out there.
Their fire is all burned out,
But I am just now witnessing the flames.
I will never get to meet those stars,
And I will never get to thank them for
Keeping me company all those nights.
They died long before I lived.
Sometimes, I think about the Titans trapped
In the world at the center of our Earth.
I think about them rattling our world by
Shifting tectonic plates, or laughing at a joke
So loudly, that the oceans of our world
Rumble
Like a hungry God
Desperate for souls.
Sometimes, I think about the Gods that once
Ruled over our world
And the worlds that came before us.
I think about divine beauty so cruel
That it could suffocate those who dared
Face its power.
I think about wits so sharp they could
Cut man down from his pedestal
Swiftly, and with ease.
Sometimes, I think about power so
Holy, it could align hearts against each other
Like Kings, on a chessboard
Or soldiers, on a battle field.
Sometimes, I think about death without life.
Sometimes, I think about life without faith.
