Someday
Dear Aiden,
We haven't talked in a while.
There's something I never got to say.
I've known you as long as I can remember,
But we didn't become friends until years after we met.
I liked spending time with you,
You made me laugh.
We only saw one another occasionally
Then, suddenly, we saw each other more often.
We spent more and more time together.
Everyone told me you had feelings for me,
I didn't believe them.
We were just friends.
Then everything changed:
We started going out.
This meant we were supposed to spend more time together.
The opposite happened.
We hardly saw one another.
You never wanted to talk.
Our breakup was mutual.
I don't know your reasons,
But now you know mine.
We agreed to still be friends,
Maybe you didn't mean it.
We avoided each other
We didn't hang out anymore.
It's been six months.
I caught your eye
To show you that I was still your friend.
You looked away.
Baby steps,
That's all I asked
And you listened.
Later, you said "Hi,"
When everyone went home,
We said "Bye."
Maybe one day,
We can have an actual conversation.
We can go back to how it was before.
Someday soon,
Everything will be normal again.
I'm looking forward to that day.
Your Friend,
Hazel
