Someday It Will All Be Gone

Sometimes I cry at night,

Thinking about the future and what it holds.

Someday everything I love will be gone,

And I myself will disappear.

Isn't it sad? I ask myself,

As I watch the world around me continue to move.

Surely all these people have realize what I have,

Yet they live on, seemingly without a care.

Maybe it's just me,

Perhaps I think too much.

Am I the only one worried about my mortality?

I watch the birds that fly high in the sky,

And the rabbits that burrow deep in the earth.

Do they know that their time will soon come?

Much quicker than mine?

I listen to the trees swaying in the breeze,

The squirrels chattering away.

Maybe they do know.

That's why they're so busy

Making the most of everyday.

It's incredible, is it not?

How everything in the world works?

We all know we don't last forever,

But we don't become sullen with grief for ourselves.

Instead we persevere, refusing to give in to the facts.

We realize that someday all that we know will be gone,

So we use each to day to make sure they remember us.

Whether it's the house we build,

The country we unite,

The book that we wrote,

Or the painting we poured our soul into,

Everything we do is so that when the day comes,

That we close our eyes for the last time,

And all that we know has changed,

There will be those that continue to remember our name

Whether it is in vain,

We'll never know

But for now it is enough,

To keep working toward our goal.

I enjoy writing, whether it's a short story, a poem, or a fanfiction. In my spare time I paint as much as I can, and I love to read. It's important to voice your thoughts and feelings, whether it's out loud to a real person or quietly with a pen and a piece of paper.
