Someone Important

I had known you for quite awhile We were both pretty shy, We started talking one day And gave friendship a try. On that day away from home, You were feeling really blue. I was there to listen And to help you work it through. Talking all the time, We became pretty close Hanging out frequently, My house was often the host. Too soon for my liking Summer ended and new things started, An unspoken promise to stay the same, Separate ways we departed. A place where I knew no one, This experience like new, We were going through the same thing, I depended on that too. At first we stayed in touch, Talking like we had before. But my biggest fear was Exactly what fate had in store. The leaves were changing color, As I sat outside. Reflecting on the things you said That made me horrified. You were acting very distant, I could sense in you a change, I was clinging on to something That would never be the same. Do you know how much you hurt me? Do you even care? When I needed you the most You weren’t even there. Do you miss our friendship? Because I know I do. Even though nothing will change now, I still wish you missed it too. So now we’re moving forward Shuffled along by life’s craze Even though I’m looking backward, Reflecting on those days. Today, as it stands I can’t even call you a friend But what’s eternally messed up? I would do it all again.
