Something That Cannot Be Explained

Something that cannot be held,
That cannot be measured,
That cannot be explained,
Nor fully understood.
That's all I need.

Something that causes a joy so uplifting,
I don’t dare look down.
Like speeding down the highway, singing at the top of my lungs,
With my best friends and only the stars as our audience.
That’s all I need.

Something that causes a pain so deep,
It feels impossible to climb out.
Like missing someone so badly,
There is a physical ache in my chest: something missing.
That’s all I need.

Something that moves me to reach out to others.
And to do what critics said was impossible.
That compels me to stand up for what is right.
And to trust without reason or proof.
That’s all I need.
