something deeper.

Expectations & standards

The people try to meet.

Pretending & privilege

I wish they could wake up and see.

And sometimes I feel like,

I’m about to fall flat on my face

Running in circles

Always out of place.

This girl that I’ve been,

I don’t want to be her.

I’m sick of the shallow,

I need something deeper.

I want to be proud

Of the person I am,

With compassion and goodness,

Giving a helping hand.

I want to feel

God in my heart,

Like a slate washed clean,

I want to restart.

So I’ll take it day by day

Call my family

Get on my knees, and start to pray.

And maybe someday

I’ll look at myself and think,

I’m so proud to be her.

And the emptiness will be full,

Because I found something deeper.
