Something I Can't Live Without

Throughout my life, I have found many things of value.

From rare books, to records, to travel,

These are not things I would wish to live to pursue.

For to have such resources or riches is great indeed,

They are nothing if they are only driven by your greed.

To live a full and happy life, one cannot be most concerned by physical things,

But rather by whom you care share your passions and adventures with.

Someone to love, cherish and hold

Someone to laugh with and fall asleep with is something that never grows old.

Someone who gets caught in your stare, and leaves you feelings completely unaware,

You would do anything to see them smile,

Especially if it means going the extra mile.

You can live your life with your material things,

But more enjoy the feeling of sharing it with someone in your dreams.

And when you are awake, you are alone,

Not only surrounded by your vast treasure trove,

But filled with an emptiness that can only be filled by another’s love,

That you have abandoned in search of frivolous things and far off lands.

So when I am asked what I most hold dear,

It is the ability to love and be loved that keeps me from having fear.

For nothing scares you more or fills you with greater joy,

Than by having someone who you can say will always be yours.
